Example: Let’s suppose a case with Excel Numbers.
- Excel contains numbers like time, date, currency values, and percentages, and all these values are stored in number format and User has to depend on the formatting of the numbers to understand the meaning of a particular number.
As an example, in the below image column B contains the value 0.5 in different formats.
How To Change Formatting in Excel
Excel itself provides many formatting options in easy simple steps. Many common formatting options are available on the Home ribbon at the top. Click on General drop-down and choose the type of formatting.
Follow the below steps to apply various types of formatting on the Excel worksheet.
- Select a cell to apply to the format.
- Right click on cell and click on Format Cells option from the list or use shortcut ctrl+1 (on windows) and command+1 (On Mac/apple).
- Now, Select the Number option from the category available on the left of the dialogue box or you can also choose other options i.e. Number, Date, Percentage, etc. according to your requirements.
- After selecting a category, now you have to choose a formatting style from multiple options available on the right side of the dialogue box.
- Once you are done with the process, then click on the OK button to apply the formatting to the selected cell.
